On September 13, GXU hosted the 2024 Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration and Freshmen Welcome Event for International Students at the small theater on the first floor of the University Student Activity Center. Xiao Jianzhuang, Vice President of GXU, attended the event and delivered a speech.
Xiao Jianzhuang shared the origins and cultural memories of the Mid-Autumn Festival with the international students. He encouraged them to seize the moment, strive forward, immerse themselves in Chinese culture and take on active roles as "citizen diplomats", facilitating communication between different cultures with their youth and wisdom.
During the performance segment, teachers from the International Student Management and Service Center introduced the origins and customs of the Mid-Autumn Festival to the international students, sparking their strong interest in traditional Chinese culture. Thai students’ dance and Myanmar students’ recitation of ancient Chinese poetry received enthusiastic applause from the audience. In the following tea party and garden-stroll activities, the students tasted Mid-Autumn foods such as mooncakes and fruits, and participated in games like riddle-guessing, lantern making, and paper cutting. This event not only allowed the international students to experience the charm of traditional Chinese culture, but also provided them with a platform for interaction and communication, fostering cultural exchange between China and other countries.
The participants of the event included representatives from the Student Affairs Office, the International Cooperation and Exchange Office, International Student Management and Service Center, School of Electrical Engineering, School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, School of Chinese Language and Literature, School of China-ASEAN Economic Institute(School of Economics/China-ASEAN Financial Cooperation Institute), faculty members from the International Student Management and Service Center, as well as 200 international students.
