The School of Electrical Engineering was established in April 1997, formerly the Department of Electrical Engineering of the School of Science and Technology of Guangxi University in 1938. The school offers programs in Electrical Engineering and Automation (1938-present), as well as Automation (1971-present). These two majors belong to national key programs and national first-class undergraduate major construction sites.

The school has built a number of R&D platforms: the National Demonstration Center for Experimental Education on Electrical Engineering, Institute of Power System Optimization of Guangxi Science and Technology Experimental Center, Key Laboratory of Electric Power Safety and New Energy Conversion Control of Guangxi Universities, and Research Center of Guangxi Power Grid Lightning Protection Engineering Technology.

The major of Electrical Engineering is recognized as a distinctive advantageous program in Guangxi. The school has one postdoctoral research station in Electrical Engineering (2009), one academician workstation of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (2014). It’s now also the first-level doctoral program site (including seven second-level disciplines), first-level master's program site (including six second-level disciplines), as well as the construction site of Energy and Power and Electronic Information (targeting electrical engineering, control engineering).

The school now has 117 faculty members and 80 full-time teachers, among which are 24 professors, 27 associate professors, 23 doctoral supervisors and 70 master’s supervisors, 63 of them owning doctoral degrees. Two experts of our school are subsidized by special government allowances of the State Council, one has been listed as the member of “Hundred Talents Program” of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, three are recognized as “Junwu Scholars”, one as “Bagui Scholars”, one as “Bagui Youth Scholars”, two as IET Fellow and one as the member of Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering. Besides, the school has cultivated a national-level teaching group and built high-quality teaching and research infrastructure. Its electrical building covers an area of 6,133 m2, and the integrated laboratory building covers an area of 6900m2. Our laboratory equipment values 63 million yuan, and 18 off-campus practice base have been established.

Over the past three years, the school has made great achievements in teaching and scientific research. In terms of teaching results, we won one grand prize and three first prizes of teaching achievements in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. We are committed to 28 educational reform projects, including 2 key projects at the autonomous region level and has published 31 papers and 9 textbooks on this topic. In terms of scientific fruits, the school now has 22 projects sponsored by National Natural Science Foundation, with totally over 58 million yuan for government sponsored and horizontal scientific research. The school has won one second prize of Provincial Technology Invention Award and three second prize of Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award. Besides, it has published 5 monographs and 178 papers, obtained 57 invention patents, 6 utility model patents and 5 foreign patents. We have won 15 state-level college students' innovation and entrepreneurship projects and 67 at autonomous region level. We have won lots of awards including 8 first prizes and 18 second prizes at national level and over 130 other awards. Among them, we won the Gold Award for Guangxi and one national Silver Award in the first China College Students' “Internet Plus” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition.

Over the past eight decades, more than 18,000 students with doctoral, master's, bachelor's, and technical and mechanical degrees have graduated from our school, including 40 doctors and 1600 postgraduates.  These students now become a major force for Guangxi’s economic development, they being experts and scholars, officials, entrepreneurs, as well as national builders working in the front line of production. An increasing number of graduates in Electrical Engineering are becoming pillars of the national cause in electrification and automation.
